Fall Teaching Conference Registration
Fall 2019 Teaching Conference
The Fall Teaching Conference is held the Thursday and Friday before classes begin. Its purpose is to orient graduate students to their GSI role and equip them to begin. All international first-time GSIs must attend on Thursday; all first-time GSIs, international and domestic, must attend on Friday. The 2019 Fall Teaching Conference runs August 22 and 23, 2019.
To be credited with completion, attendees must participate in the entire conference day. All conference activities are held on the main UC Berkeley campus. Online pre-registration is required.

Teaching Conference for All First-Time GSIs
Friday, August 23, 2019, 8:00–4:00
Due to space limitations each GSI is assigned to follow either the Group 1 Schedule or the Group 2 Schedule. Please consult the Discipline-Cluster Workshops list under each group schedule below to see which schedule you will follow. Your choice of discipline-cluster workshop should be based on your teaching assignment.
Group 1: Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Foreign Languages; Humanities; Physical Sciences; and Social Sciences (Quantitatives)
Group 2: Computer Sciences; Engineering; Quantitatives; Reading & Composition; Social Sciences (Non-Quantitatives); and Studio, Art, & Environmental Design
Group 1 Schedule
8:00–8:30 Registration (Dwinelle Hall Plaza) Please bring your Cal Student ID card to register your attendance.
8:30–12:15 Discipline-Cluster Workshops: Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Foreign Languages; Humanities; Physical Sciences; and Social Sciences (Quantitatives)
Discipline-cluster workshops address getting started as a GSI, conducting the first day of class, strategies to enhance learning, grading, and time management. GSIs are placed into groups with similar teaching assignments.

1:00–3:00 Interactive Theater
3:00–3:30 Academic Student Employee (ASE) Presentation
The Academic Student Employee (ASE) union orientation is offered in conjunction with the Teaching Conference. All first-time GSIs are required to attend this session if you have not previously attended an ASE orientation.
