A teaching portfolio is not
simply an exhaustive compilation of all the documents that have a bearing
on your teaching performance. It is a selection of information that provides
a fair and accurate representation of your development as a teacher. That
may mean revealing a process of genuine discovery and growth by including
some less favorable materials.
A good teaching portfolio
does more than simply list what you have done as a teacher. It is both
a product and a process. The product is set of papers that documents and
reflects on your teaching effectiveness, your students' learning, and
your teaching development over time. It is also a continuous process of
editing, taking material out and adding new material, and, generally,
reflecting on your progress as you grow as a teacher.
There are two basic sections
in a teaching portfolio: a 7-8 page narrative, and evidentiary appendices
documenting the claims made in the narrative.
