Future Goals

When discussing future goals avoid being overly general or adopting a confessional tone. Be specific about the areas of your teaching that you would like to develop, explain how you propose to develop them, and give a time frame within which you hope to do so. The function of this part of the portfolio is to demonstrate that you have a professional relationship to your teaching by showing how you propose to foster your development as a teacher.

Some Ways to Develop your Teaching

  • Attend conferences and courses.
  • Learn to use new kinds of instructional technology and integrate them into your teaching.
  • Develop a service learning component in a course.
  • Create new writing assignments.
  • Utilize new or previously unexplored campus resources.
  • Change textbooks, introducing new work from your field.
  • Apply for course improvement grants.
