The following articles on grading and assessment of student work can be found in the print version of the Teaching Guide or in the GSI Teaching and Resource Center’s library:
- Ronkowski, Shirley. “Evaluating What You’ve Done.” Ch 2 in TAs as Teachers: A Handbook for Teaching Assistants at UCSB. Santa Barbara: Office of Instructional Consultation, 2003. This chapter has particularly useful suggestions about constructing tests.
- Walvoord, Barbara, and Virginia Johnson Anderson. “Managing the Grading Process.” Ch 2 in Effective Grading: A Tool for Learning and Assessment. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 1998. This chapter provides a list of basic principles to make grading both more effective and more efficient.
- Dresner, Lisa, “Guidelines for Writing Letters of Recommendation.” Teaching Perspectives. (GSI Teaching and Resource Center, University of California, Berkeley) 5.2 (1996): 1-2. Although this article is not about grading per se, it provides tips from a former GSI on evaluating student work for the purpose of writing letters of recommendation.
