Testing Program – Key deadlines for students and departments

For incoming students expecting to teach in the fall semester

February to June	Statement of Intention to Register (SIR) forms submitted to Graduate Division by incoming students
June	Notification of oral proficiency screening requirement to incoming students
Mid-July	Deadline for incoming students to contact langpro@berkeley.edu to register for the SPEAK test
First week in August	Beginning of SPEAK testing (every week)

For continuing students expecting to teach in the fall semester

January – end of March	Continuing students should take the SPEAK test for following fall semester GSI appointments
January – Mid-April	Continuing students not enrolled in LPP classes should take the OPT for following fall semester GSI appointments
May	Students enrolled in LPP classes take the OPT
Mid-June – Mid-July	LPP testing office closed
June – August	Pre-enrollment in LAN PRO 100A and 100B; SPEAK/TSE or TOEFL iBT speaking section score required for enrollment.

For continuing students expecting to teach in the spring semester

September – October	Continuing students take the SPEAK test for following spring semester GSI appointments
September – Mid-November	Continuing students not enrolled in LPP classes should take the OPT for following spring semester GSI appointments
December (first 3 weeks)	Students enrolled in LPP classes take the OPT
End of December – beginning of January	LPP testing office closed
