Introducing the GSI Teaching and
Resource Center
's
Online Course for GSIs on Professional Standards and Ethics
in Teaching
This online course,
Professional Standards and Ethics in Teaching, is one of the
requirements of the Graduate Council Policy on Appointments
and Mentoring of GSIs and is intended to introduce GSIs to policies,
practices, and standards that all instructors need to know in
order to perform their responsibilities professionally and ethically.
Coupled with the seminar on teaching and learning in higher
education that GSIs take in their departments, the Teaching
Conference and other programs sponsored by the GSI Teaching
and Resource Center, and the mentoring GSIs receive from the
faculty member with whom they teach, this online course will
provide GSIs with an excellent foundation as they begin to teach
at Berkeley.
GSIs play a central role in undergraduate
education at Berkeley. The goal of this online course is to
enable GSIs to carry out their responsibilities in a manner
that promotes student learning and their own growth as instructors
while upholding the professional standards and expectations
of the University.
Modules include:
- Promoting Learning through Diversity: The Inclusive Classroom
- Teaching Students with Disabilities
- Creating an Educational Environment Free of Sexual Harassment
- Fostering Academic Integrity
- GSI Responsibilities and Ethics
The online course is required of all new GSIs. However, any instructor,
student, or staff member on the campus can enroll in and take
the course. To enroll in the course, please click on "Enrollment
